OCEAN

Mother of the world

Music by Pachelbel

I never really saw the ocean until I came to America with my husband to spend a summer vacation at our house on Mohegan in Maine, a small beautiful Island surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. What a great feeling to stand in front of the boat that took me there for the first time. The winds blew and the sea was strong, I felt as if I were riding a mad horse running up and down the hills and plunging into valleys of dark blue water.
One evening in a big storm we went to the beach to watch the waves crash. The thunder and lightning made the night even darker and the ocean seemed to stand up in a thousand gusts and rage against the land with angry explosions.
Suddenly a bolt of lightning flashed through the sky and my eyes caught a vivid picture of seagulls, hundreds of them, huddling close together on a big rock against the dark fiery rain. What great birds they were. They were like heroes of life.
One day, not long after, I was at a friend’s home in Virginia. During dinner, she played Pachebel’s Canon with ocean sounds. I felt this dance pregnant within me, inspired by those lovely birds, and the great blue sea... Ocean is the mother of the world.
