In China some folk dances were performed with implements used in daily activities such as sticks, spears, plates, handkerchiefs, chopsticks and particularly fans which are very poplar in China. Different locations have different styles… Originating in Hebei Province in north China the Di-Yang-Ge is one of the most famous fan dance styles. The movements are characteristically strong, rich and vivid. There is a saying that this particular style creates a dance that is “a symphony of the body”. Yu Wei studied with famous Di-Yang-Ge master Mr. Huang Ji-shi for a decade to master the intricate movements that so perfectly imitate nature.
