China has 56 ethnic peoples, each with their own cultural tradition, life style, language, and folk dances. Yunnan province in southwestern China is home to 24 ethnic people, most of whom dwell in the high mountains that grow into the Tibetan plateau that forms the western border of the province. It is a beautiful area, warm and moist in all seasons and filled with exotic animals and plants. Rainbow' is a dance in the style of the Dai people, one of the major ethnic groups in Yunnan. The Dai are noted for their brilliantly colorful costumes, personal beauty, and the soft flutelike quality of their music.
