Yu Wei is a prodigiously talented choreographer and dancer from China, whose captivating dance visions have been holding American audiences spellbound.
Praised for her exquisite artistry and purity of dance style, loved by her audiences in everywhere, Yu Wei has performed throughout the United States, including New York’s Manhattan Center and the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
Influenced by the synergy between dance, poetry and music that flourished during the Tang Dynasty. Natural observation, folk tradition and her classical training inform Yu Wei’s dance art. Her choreography is filled with the vivid imagery of life. Traditional costumes, original music and short narrative films combine to create a performance of cultural significance and artistic power.
Yu Wei was born in Wuhan China. Selected at an early age by the Wuhan Song and Dance Theater Academy, she studied a broad curriculum of dance based on Chinese classical, folk, ethnic dance and ballet, and became the principal dancer of the Wuhan Song and Dance Theater, with which she performed throughout China. She has also performed as a guest artist with the Dance Companies in Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan Province, and in Beijing with the China Song and Dance Company. She was the lead dancer of National Ballets "Lijiang River Sentiment" and "Yao Shan Flame". She has also been a guest artist in important national festivals such as: International Youth Festival in Guangzhou, International Television Festival Opening in Shanghai, The China and Japan Friendship Celebration, The China National 20th Century Extraordinary Dance Exhibition in Beijing; and was selected as a member of the China National Contemporary Famous Dancers tour performed in China.
The Yu Wei dance collection is danced and choreographed by Yu Wei. The collection began in Beijing 1992 under the artistic direction of nationally renowned dance master Zhangke. The collection has been performed in Beijing, Xian, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Kunming, Dagin and Anqin... It has been broadcast on National Centre Television and performed at the National Dance Association Convention.

Yu Wei has been awarded the First Prize of the Professional Dance Skill Competition, and the Silver Award for Choreography in Hubei province, and the Excellence Award in the National First Lotus Dance Competition in Beijing 1998.
Since coming to America in 2000 the Yu Wei Chinese Dance Collection has toured extensively in America. In 2007 Yu Wei was invited to perform at the International Dance Festival in Busan, South Korea, and Cult TV International film festival in Heythrop Park, England. Yu Wei has received awards from the Leeway Foundation, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and theaFellowship from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Yu Wei has been selected for the roster of Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour since 2004, and was represent by SMG Artists and Life on Stage agencies.

Has the reputation of being "A rare genius" director in the Chinese dance world, was the vice president of China National Ethnic Dancers Association and the professor of the Dance Department of The National Ethnic University of China. Mr. Zhang Ke has ted and directed more than a hundred national dance ballets and events throughout of China. Mr. Zhang Ke was the artistic direction master of Yu Wei’s dances from 1992 - 1999 in Beijing.
